Headwaters Podcast

Audio has allowed me to tell more in-depth, nuanced stories about science, history, and how we understand our public lands. I am one of the hosts and producers of Seasons 2-6 of Headwaters, Glacier National Park’s podcast. We tell stories about the park and its science, history, and cultures, but also about how Glacier is connected to everything else.

A woman with a backpack stands in the foreground, looking small as she gazes up at a gigantic silver skeleton of a once-giant tree. Dark broken rocks surround them, with a valley and mountains beyond.

Visiting Ilawye, a thousand-plus year old whitebark pine tree on the Flathead Reservation: the great-grandparent tree.

Season 2: Whitebark Pine

The most important tree you’ve never heard of: why it’s important, why it’s dying, and the story of the people trying to save it. Five episodes examine the ecology, cultural significance, and restoration of this critical species.

Season 3: Becoming

The history of Glacier before it became a park. We follow threads that lead us throughout the Rocky Mountains and reveal surprising connections across the country and beyond. I was lead producer on “Becoming | A Market Place” and “Becoming | Forgotten Soldiers.”

Season 4

Shorter format episodes exploring stories from the people and animals of Glacier. I was lead producer on two episodes, “Chasing Waterfalls: the Search for Glacier’s Hidden Wildlife” and “Can Ranger Traditions Survive into the Future?

Holding Joe Kipp’s cast iron pan—a complicated character from the 19th century that we explore in Becoming | A Market Place.

Season 5: Climate Conversations

A series of interviews about different facets of climate change. I worked on editing and post-production for this season.

Season 6: Switchback (coming March 2025)

Stories from the 20th century in Glacier about times when the park changed direction. Lead producer on two episodes: “Living with Fire (and each other)” about the history of wildfire management, and “Objecting to the Good War,” about two very different anti-war movements with ties to Glacier during WWII.
